A beautiful 19th century American landscape believed to be of the Lake George area, signed J. Davis, in a great gold leaf frame. Wonderful detail to trees and landscape in the foreground with buildings in the distance. Circa 1870. Good condition with typical old crackalure. One old small canvas patch on the back.
John Davis, Born 1832 in Meredith Bridge, New Hampshire. Died January 1910 Elmhurst Long Island, New York. He was a wood engraver and painter. He was one of the founders of the Society of American Wood Engravers. His work appeared in the American Art Review and Harpers Monthly.
